    Event Description:

THE ART AND HISTORY OF QUILTING by Carol Rogers, 5 Sessions, Thursday, April 4 – May 2, 1:10 am - 3:10 pm

This course will discuss the art of quilting. How it started in America, where it came from and the purpose it served during war time and colonial times. There will be descriptions of each block to be made and what each block represents. The importance of fabric choices, rulers, threads and cutting implements will be a main topic of discussion. Rules of safety will be also be implemented.

The class will include instructions on reading patterns, the supplies needed for cutting and sewing blocks together. The class will concentrate on basic machine quilting. Samples will be provided and a light weight sewing machine will be available as the class progresses. It will also allow the class to create a picture of their own.

Carol has been a quilter for 14 years and loves taking pieces of fabric and making a picture out of them. Having her own quilt shed gave her an opportunity to teach local friends many of the fine points needed to safely cut and sew quilt blocks. Carol found the history of quilting fascinating and did research on where it all started. It has inspired her to share this history as well as her knowledge of quilting with others.
