“MORE OF A MEMOIR THAN A COOKBOOK:” EXPLORING CULINARY LITERATURE by Georgia Googer
This course is interested in the intersection of the culinary and the literary. Cooking, much like literature, is a deeply enriching human experience. It is at once functional and artistic. What we eat (and who we choose to eat with) speaks to aspects of life beyond nutritional need: the desire for fellowship, the excitement of creating something new, the comfort of routine, and more. Our readings will be interdisciplinary in nature, filled with personal anecdote, history, and, of course, cooking instruction. Together, we will feed our minds and bodies via the work of Alice B. Toklas, Eugene Walter, and Julia Child. “Good eating, you-all!”

Georgia Googer is an instructor of English for Young Harris College, teaching introductory composition and literature courses. An alumna of YHC, Georgia also holds a Master of Arts in English Literature from the University of Vermont. Her research and scholarship efforts are primarily interested in American Modernism and the intersection of the verbal, visual, and cinematic arts of the 20th century. Outside of the classroom, Georgia can be found playing soccer with her team “Atlanta Untied,” trying to master her grandmother’s coffee cake recipe, and watching old Italian films with her sweet cat, Beatrice.
