?Contemporary Appalachian Literature: Part Two? covering the following: Complicating Part One?s look at how contemporary fictional works represent the Appalachian region, Part Two will focus on the anthology Appalachian Reckoning, which was edited by Anthony Harkins and Meredith McCarroll. This book amplifies a variety of voices who all speak to different issues, passions, and perspectives across the broad region. By focusing on authors ?from the inside? we will continue to learn from authentic experiences and further our own understandings of what Appalachia is today.
Mikala Jones joined Young Harris College?s Department of Literature and Languages in 2020 soon after earning her MA in English Composition and Rhetoric from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She also holds a BA in English Literature from Young Harris College. Mikala focuses her scholarly work on prison writing programs, literacy studies, and community engagement, and her hobbies include hiking, stamp carving, and?of course?both reading and writing.
