Homebrewing Workshop and Tasting with Hoppy Trout at Kula Wellness
We're big fans of craft beer and nothing's better than a delicious, cold local brew on a hot summer's day. So we're pretty darn pumped to welcome our local brewmaster buddy Tom from Hoppy Trout to Kula for a Homebrewing Workshop + Tasting on Saturday, June 15th from 1:00-5:00pm.
Like an engineer or two we know, Tom put his NC State studies to use in the best way possible: by mastering the art of brewing beer at home. He got so good at it, in fact, that he opened Hoppy Trout, one of the best local microbreweries around, in Andrews, NC in January 2016. He continues to grow, expand and experiment with new recipes and collaborates often with other breweries throughout the region.
In the workshop, Tom will explain why certain grains and hops are chosen for specific types of beer, and will demonstrate each step of the brewing process. Students will get to watch and participate in every part of the process involved in brewing an all-grain beer - specifically, a pale ale recipe. Participants will learn how to mill barley, extract sugars from the grain, add hops and flavors, and take home wort to ferment and bottle. And be sure to show up with your taste buds ready, because Tom will be bringing along a selection of samples to taste!
Each student will get a 64oz growler of the finished wort at the end of the demonstration with a kit to take home for finishing the process. The kit will include: (1) growler, (1) airlock, (1) rubber stopper, 1500ml of wort, (3) 500ml flip top bottles, yeast, and priming sugar.
